This past month I had the joy of going to a pray at the place in my town where a state-wide Wiccan group was coming to set up their monthly “Lunar Faire.” The event invites all manner of psychics, Tarot card readers, mediums…even mermaids! This particular fair was extra important as it took place during the largest full moon of the year, what some refer to as a “supermoon.” As a result, someone in our community felt the pull to go and pray at the event beforehand to release God’s light and protection over our town.
That day, as we worshipped and prayed in the parking lot outside the fair, I cannot tell you how much we felt God’s presence come and fill that space. But it was during this point that a woman came out to the area we were praying in with a drum and some pieces of cedar which she sprinkled around the lot as she spoke out certain words. We couldn’t be sure what she was doing, but it definitely felt like a counteracting response to our gathering. However, instead of seeing this as pure opposition, I decided to go and strike up a conversation with this individual.
As we talked I felt the immense pull of God’s heart toward her. She introduced herself as “Caden” (my apologies if the name is spelt wrong) and immediately I felt drawn to her drum. The word “cadence” came to mind and I shared with her about a true and full cadence and rhythm that God wanted to bring into her life. I then told her how much I felt God’s love for her and she explained that she had been in seminary at one point, but had chosen a different path. We did not get a chance to talk further, but I reinforced this impression of burning love from God’s heart toward her and she thanked me for the comments.
My heart goes out to New Age practitioners and Wiccans, because I have found in many of their stories an experience of let-down from the Christian church (and in some cases, flat out abuse, particularly from men, which makes the feminine spirituality and the “goddess” narratives all the more alluring). Now I didn’t get a chance to learn this person’s complete story, but I thought of other people I’ve met who had a supernatural gift but did not find a place for it in the world of seminaries and churches.
This is why my heart is filled hope as reformation and awakening comes to the church. As the church awakens to the supernatural, to the prophetic gifts of God’s Spirit, and most importantly, to the message of true identity, there is going to be a massive shift in the days ahead. Instead of people leaving dead ritualistic systems for different paths of control and religion (even if they don’t use that word—that’s what it is), they will find their home in a beautiful and embracing church.
All of this to say that I find it amazing the true church is compared to a “full moon” in the Bible. This verse from the Song of Songs speaks to the destiny of Jesus’s Bride. It also shows that as she comes into this destiny, the world will be drawn to her—to Him—like never before.
With that in mind, I encourage you to read the next article in this August edition of Elisha’s Riddle. It is an excerpt from The Song of the Ages 2 and it addresses this “full moon” calling on the church… Following that article is a piece from Barry Karasiewicz, which reminded me that this past month was the anniversary of the lunar landing! I take all of this as little signposts of God’s hopeful message for His rising Bride in this hour…
