You* are what happens when God takes a selfie.
Did you know that the word “selfie” is now officially in Webster’s Dictionary? Here’s the definition: “An image of oneself taken by oneself using a digital camera especially for posting on social networks.”
Now there are three ingredients to a proper selfie experience:
1) You*
2) A fresh selfie of you* (see definition for instructions)
3) The love, joy, pleasure, and delight that you* feel while observing the fresh selfie of you*
This feeling of delight towards this selfie of you* might lead to such thoughts as “Daaanng man, you look good,” or, “Girl, why are you so fresh?” You might even vocalize a “Woo” or do a little dance with nobody watching.
By the way, congratulations, you now also understand the Trinity.
Christ is the image of the invisible of God (Col. 1:15). The exact representation of His being (Heb. 1:2). Jesus is the eternal selfie of God. The Father has been taking a selfie of Himself forever. The Son, Jesus, is that selfie. The love, delight, and pleasure that the Father takes in His own selfie is the Spirit.
We know that God is living and could not possibly consist of a dead image. That’s why His selfie, Jesus, is living. This is a living, moving, breathing, thinking, feeling selfie.
Jesus’ baptism is an example of the Trinity’s eternal selfie. Jesus comes out of the water, the Father sees His selfie, and He says by the Spirit, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well-pleased.”
Now, before the world began, the Trinity asked, “Can We make more sons? More selfies of the Father that He can delight in by His Spirit?” And maybe it seemed like a crazy idea but the Trinity went ahead and created you*.
You* are held together, sustained, and fully redeemed in Christ who is the eternal selfie of God. And by virtue of you* being in Him, you* too are a selfie of God. You* are a living, breathing, moving, thinking, and feeling image of God. And this is not of your own doing, but by His grace.
*Yes, YOU.
