When You Pray…

Below is a special article written by one of our readers – Kathleen Cavanaugh!

As a mystic, I cherish the embodiment of our union in Christ who came to redeem all of humanity’s awareness to that of oneness with Father God! I love exploring the deep mysteries of this beautiful Kingdom in which we reign with our King Jesus!

Let me ask, have you ever been discouraged or disappointed when your prayer seemingly wasn’t answered?

I’ve wondered why and remain open to learn. Jesus told us to ask that our joy may be full! In Mark 11, Jesus’ response to the marveling disciples at the cursed fig tree was, “Have faith of God; for verily I say to you, that whoever may say to this mount, Be taken up, and cast into the sea, and may not doubt in his heart, but believe that the things that he saith do come to pass, it shall be to him whatever he may say. Because of this I say to you, all whatever –praying – ye do ask, believe that ye receive, and it shall be to you.” (Mark 11:22-23 YLT).

The mount is the high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God. It gets cast into the sea of Jesus’s finished work. Thoughts of doubt may pass through our minds, but we take them captive to Christ’s obedience.

I wonder if we often pray from our minds, thinking we are believing in our hearts, yet are missing something that may hinder us from seeing our prayers answered?

If I pray believing I already have the thing(s) I’m asking for … how would that make me feel? Emotions are energy in motion that make us feel warm inside. The entire cosmos is vibrating with the energy of Jesus Christ! It’s His love and we are His children!!

I propose that there is a place for our feelings to feel as though our prayers are answered beyond being in “mental agreement,” and just thinking that we are ‘in faith’.

Christ is calling us here to believe we already have what we asked for! We are to see it in our imaginations. Then, with our emotions, we feel what it’s like to have the answer. Having our mind and hearts in agreement with how loved we are by Father, we open our hearts to receive all the blessings that have already been freely given to us.

This may sound offensive, but other cultures are often more attune with the world of the spirit and the art of meditation. Yet, believers in Christ are called to excel in this. We are to meditate—focus our thoughts on whatsoever things are true, good, lovely, a good report, etc. (Phil. 4:8). This involves our imagination. We can then allow ourselves to feel how it would feel with our emotions as if we have the things we’ve prayed for (and continually give thanks as a result).

There is a knowing that comes when we can feel the harmony of our heart and mind allowing ourselves to experience the feelings of already having the thing for which we are asking. All things have already been given to us. By grace, we are learning to access our inheritance. God made us so wonderfully and fearfully. We are His deeply beloved children!

Contrary to some modern views of God, our Creator is not a simply collective consciousness or a complex network of vibrating energy … He is Our Father! His intention was to create sons and daughters to have relationship with. Though there are certain truths that people are tapping into through science and meditation, this is the greatest and most empowering truth – the loving heart of God. But make no mistake about it – our Father also wants us to tap into so much more of His creation and understand the power of fully “believing with the heart.” May He continue to bring more truth to us, that we might pray with greater joy and experience even more manifestations of His Kingdom!

When you pray, believe that you already have (Mark 11:23)
