Did you know that during the winter of 1777 – in the midst of one of the more hopeless moments of the Revolution – our first president, George Washington, had an angelic encounter?  “I had seen a vision,” he recalled, “wherein had been shown to me the birth, progress, and destiny of the United States.”

In this vision, Washington was shown three crises the nation would go through, each bringing about a greater unity than what existed before.

The first was the Revolutionary War, which was obviously happening already.

The second was a conflict emerging from something in Africa that would cause brother to fight against brother. This was an incredible prophetic word about the American Civil War. In that part of the vision, the angel bore a crown with the word “UNION” traced upon it, and placed the crown between the divided states, and said, “Remember . . . ye are brethren.” 

The third vision involved a totally different kind of conflict the nation would go through. In this final encounter, Washington was shown black clouds coming into America from all different nations. He specifically mentioned Asia and Europe. This led to other scenes involving a conflict on the ground, including the burning of cities. Many believe we are in the midst of the fulfillment of this vision right now.

The amazingly good news is how the vision ended. Once again, George Washington saw the angel with a crown on its head declaring the word UNION. In the vision, the angel blew a trumpet and the dark clouds were pushed back. The “light of a thousand suns” burst into our nation and a new day erupted for America. Then, these words came out of the angel’s mouth:

“While the stars remain, and the heavens send down dew upon the earth, so long shall the Union last.” 

Today, there’s a lot of talk about the negatives in the country (on both sides of the political aisle). Now, of course, it’s extremely important we deal honestly with sins and injustices in the land. However, doing this from a position of condemnation does not come from the Father of lights. Heaven has a different view of this nation. It sees plenty of problems, but even more solutions. It sees the beauty of a nation that has gathered all kinds of people groups under a type of governance allowing for levels of societal freedom unlike anything seen before. Such a structure necessitates a lot of birthing pangs, but it is all leading to more and more of an unfolding of God’s ultimate plans for this nation.

So we want to declare that we are in those days when that trumpet is about to sound. We invite our readers to join in agreement with the voice of GRACE and UNITY over the United States of America. There’s going to be incredible victory released in the days ahead. Let’s partner with a spirit of hope and celebration as we prepare for what’s in front of us.

As the lead editor of Elisha’s Riddle, I’d like to add a little bit more on the heels of this vision by sharing what I believe is still on God’s heart for this country…

God is going to give the elected President greater grace to unite. This has been a word we’ve felt from 2016, but there’s been an intense and ongoing battle toward seeing it manifest. That battle will continue for some time, but many shifts will begin to take place month after month. While this might still seem foolish to some readers, there will be a lot of positive change in days ahead! I believe the level of inclusivity that comes into the presidential administration will be so much so that it will offend even some of President’s base. God is going to give him a tremendous heart for all the people groups of this amazing nation and this will coincide with the church moving in a greater confidence in her identity in Christ. Can we believe for this?!

And by the way, here’s a link to access the full account of George Washington’s vision. It was recounted by an old soldier named Anthony Sherman. As might be expected, secular historians cast a lot of doubt on whether George really had this vision. Nevertheless, the words were published and placed in the Library of Congress in the 1800s.
