The Wind is Blowing

Christ is always on the move, everywhere. Every day He is actively sustaining and loving all things (Colossians 1:16-17). He is the Riddle and the Mystery hidden in all creation, the glory of God that fills the earth (Isaiah 6:3) and He is always revealing Himself for those with eyes to see and ears to hear.

In the midst of this constant Presence, Christ moves and acts in very specific ways and in very specific places. He releases His Spirit and creates bursts of inspiration along the way. The word “inspire” means “a breathing into.” Indeed, we are entering into a newly inspired season, which many refer to as a move of the Spirit. And this new move very much connects to a certain team in the National Football League… The Kansas City Chiefs.

Prophetic Football

Three years ago, at the beginning of 2020, the Chiefs won the Super Bowl. For those who don’t know, many correlated this to an old prophecy from a prophetic minister in Kansas City named Bob Jones. He had said the Chiefs winning the Super Bowl would signify the emergence of a major revival. Some people who hear about this prophecy assume it was a random thing Bob threw out once or twice; but for those who knew the guy, it was something he talked about often and had spoken about on numerous occasions. He felt very strongly that the Chiefs winning would be a sign of significant awakening. The last time they had won was in 1970.

In early 2020, it certainly seemed like an awakening was emerging. Around the same time the Chiefs won Super Bowl LIV, there were several historic events taking place. One in particular occurred in the nation of Brazil. Three stadiums across three different cities were filled with tens of thousands of worshippers. Our very own Dylan DeMarsico was there with his wife Whitney in Sao Paolo. During this time, the president of the nation stood up to receive Christ and many other incredible things transpired. During this season, further north, the words “Jesus is King” was plastered all over Times Square and on billboards across America as Kayne West declared a heartfelt surrender to Jesus in the release of his new album. There were many other things that were happening during this time, including a number of signs and intense encounters in my own church community The Almond Branch in New Jersey.

Unfortunately, soon after the Chiefs won the big game as a supposed sign of revival, Covid broke loose into the world. We don’t need to get into all the details here, but I think we can all agree this thing was from the enemy and it was meant to take the wind out of people. It was meant to stop inspiration. And literally, this is what happened. We lost some dear people due to serious respiratory issues. A dear friend who worked at our church for several decades passed away after the disease impacted an underlying issue in their lungs. A number of other difficult things occurred during this season, including a major fragmentation in our church. To people all over the world, any semblance of true revival seemed to fade in the background as political and social upheaval multiplied and the death tally increased.

Divine Delays

Right before Covid I had also received my own personal prophetic word about the coming year from a seasoned minister and Bible teacher. The word concerned the next 12 months of my life and was given toward the end of 2019. The first part of the word came true in a miraculous way – which I do not have time to share here – but the rest of it did not come to pass. Instead, the Lord met me during that season and told me there was a delay happening. In this delay, there were some serious things God had to deal with in my own heart.

Now it’s important to know that the enemy can play a big part in delaying certain words and promises in our lives. The book of Daniel hits on this when it speaks of a dark force that attempts to change “times, laws, and seasons” (Dan. 7:25). But demonic delays will quickly become divine parades. God marches us forward in patience and teaches us foundational things, truly working out all things for our good. In many ways God has turned around Covid and made it a season for His bride to mature, and to expose shallowness and immaturity within the body of Christ. While there are many horrible things that happened, including increased suicide, drug use, and corruption, there were many more testimonies of God doing a deep work in hearts, families, churches, and nations.

During this time, a friend sent me one of the funniest meme/videos I’d ever seen. I genuinely felt the joy of the Lord as I watched it, and the Lord spoke to me through it, confirming this season of delay. If you’re not a Lord of the Rings fan, you may not appreciate it, but it’s a scene where Gandalf, a clear Christ figure in the story, is delayed. He promised to meet the main character Frodo in a certain place and at a certain time, but it never happened. When they finally reconvene, Frodo asks for the reason for his delay. The video then inserts a hilarious clip of something Gandalf was busy doing. (I’ll link it here for your viewing pleasure.)

Asbury and Other Signs

Ok. Well, I may have lost some of you there. Raving wizards aside, here’s the point of this article. We believe this delay has come to an end and many promises are coming together with greater force and greater love. It’s now three years later, the Kansas City Chiefs have won the Super Bowl yet again, and we can feel His Spirit beginning to stir people into a new dimension of faith. As many of you have heard by now, only a few days before the Chiefs won, young college students started to awaken to the glory of Christ at Asbury University in Wilmore, Kentucky.

Now here’s what’s interesting about this particular location. Asbury has had several awakenings at key times during history. The first was in 1905, not long before the world-changing revival that broke loose in Los Angeles on Asuza Street. Many years later, in 1970, there was a strong stirring of the Spirit at Asbury once again. This happened at the height of another historic event known as the Jesus People Movement. Interestingly, as we mentioned before, that year was also the last year the Chiefs won the Super Bowl. It would be another 50 years (the number of Jubilee and restoration) before they won again.

It is no coincidence that at the same time this stirring hit Asbury again, the Chiefs have won another victory AND the movie Jesus Revolution was released in theaters. This movie is about the very time period of the Jesus People Movement I just mentioned! The timing of this film release and its connection to what was going on during the last move at Asbury is absolutely remarkable. No one can deny the signs of God’s moving around us.

God’s Spirit is always available to us. There is a limitless drink of grace available to every heart that hungers for the abiding friendship of God. But make no mistake that this omnipresent Wind is moving and inspiring in new and fresh ways. A heavy gale is coming that is going to sweep away everything that has tried to take our breath away in the past season (whether it’s a temptation or a disease). Jesus is being revealed in this moment and hearts are being awakening. A new historic moment is upon us.

We want to call our beloved readers into a deeper place of joy and desire in the Lord. Be ready to catch this wind and embrace the fresh love and power Jesus is pouring out. All of this is only the beginning. Something is going to build and crescendo in an unimaginable way in the days ahead.
