The Simple Word of God

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”

There are a lot of words in the Bible and sometimes you can feel lost. Which command do I obey? What is God speaking to me? Which verse should I focus on? It’s helpful to remember that Jesus is the Word of God. When you aren’t sure what God is saying, you can always be sure He is saying “Jesus” to you. Jesus is the Word that God is always speaking. But what does that mean? What does that look like?

Jesus is God’s Word of death and resurrection to you. The death and resurrection are the central acts of Christ. God’s Word, Jesus, has died your death and has raised you to life (see Colossians 2:11-12 and Galatians 2:20).

Jesus is the Father’s promise over your life. You can always trust that your old sinful nature died and that you are alive in Jesus, perfect and innocent. Paul wrote that he who knew no sin, became sin, so that we would become the righteousness of God (2 Cor 5:21).

Don’t Feel Lost

Our Father doesn’t want us to feel lost. We once were lost, but now we’re found. When the prodigal son returned home, he no longer felt lost. He felt at home. He felt like he belonged.

It is from this place of confidence that our lives start to sort out. He’s constantly trying to convince us of who we are. Like the Hillsong Worship song says, “I am who he says I am.” We are the children of God.

An orphan might go searching for long lost letters and fragments of photos from their parents. But we are not orphans. Jesus is the Word of our adoption. We are a part of the family.

Finding Our Place

Once we realize who we are, we still might feel out of place at times. Part of growing up in Christ is finding our place in the family of God. It might sound cliche, but the best way to find out place is to look for our passion.

We all have many passions. For me, it’s things like writing, spending time with younger men, playing with kids. There’s more, but that’s a few places that I have felt that sense of purpose within God’s family.

My prayer is for you to find that confidence as a child of God. And to find the joy and purpose of your place in the family of God. Whether it be serving the poor, working hard at your day job, being a loving husband or wife, or many other things, there is an adventure that your Father has for you every day of your life.

Even if it feels little and insignificant sometimes, just know that your Father sees it and he cares. And even more than just caring, he is the one who gives you his energy and life to even do stuff in the first place.

He’s given you his son, Jesus. The perfect strength and life inside of your soul. His life overflows and pours out from within you. You’re a vessel of the Holy Spirit of your Father. A modern day version of the life of Jesus living in and through you! A simple life of love! Small acts and small humility! A mustard seed of faith! The gift of God!
