The Big Bang of the New Creation

The DNA and destiny of our entire universe was encoded within an infinitesimally small “seed.” There are multitudes upon multitudes of theories of how this seed germinated, but at the end of the day, all we know that is something broke forth and the seed sprouted (initially even faster than the speed of light). This is what is commonly known as the Big Bang.

Upon this seed’s breaking and germination, there was a cooling that took place and a root system began take shape within the new soil of time and space. The root system I’m referring to are the first and primary elements from which all other elements grew. These unseen “root elements” eventually gave way to light as something emerged “above the ground” of space. In other words, unseen things became visible. Light energy surfaced and stars erupted as the trunk of the cosmos grew bigger and bigger. These stars grouped together like bark stretching over wood and they began to form the mighty branches of the cosmic tree (spiraling and elliptical branches known as galaxies). Then, like leaves on the tree, solar systems quickly followed. And finally came the fruit, which is the seed’s ultimate destiny…

Life.

This life ripened into an intelligence that mirrored the Maker and Sower of it all. It was at this point that the highest purpose of the seed really began to take shape. For the seed’s purpose is always the ripe fruit—the cream of the crop—which holds even more seeds, all of which are designed to multiply the original one. Indeed, God had always intended to multiply His own life in the cosmos…

The prophet Isaiah once compared God’s Word to a seed. Later on in the Scriptures, Jesus made this same comparison. There are in fact numerous references to the Word being a seed. Even Jesus Himself is called the Word, and He compared His death to a seed that breaks open and dies within the soil.

The Word is what birthed the first creation of the universe through a Big Bang of radiant light.

The Word is what birthed the new creation through a Big Bang of resurrection light.

The Word is a seed.

And so it seems that God loves to begin with things that are very fragile and small in order work out an unbelievable array of designs, plans, and destiny. Perhaps this is a picture of how strength comes from weakness, and how life comes out of death (for a seed must die in the ground before it becomes a tree). The Big Bang itself was a destructive explosion that ultimately brought forth life. And just think about how God brought about a global movement of faith, hope, and love out of a tiny little manger in Bethlehem—an animal’s feeding trough where the seed of the Word was laid.

Dear friends, do not despise small beginnings. This same Word has been planted in your heart and its story is only just beginning. Perhaps some of us have only just begun to understand the Word of our salvation—the reality that we died with Christ and are now in complete and perfect union with Him. This truth may not seem to be revealing the fullness of the DNA promise it carries… But you have no idea what can come out of the little seeds that God sows. There is a mighty trunk of glory, a crop of divine qualities, an assortment of cosmic destiny that is ahead of you! The Word has been planted in you like a seed—and if it’s anything like the first creation, the new creation of your life is going to be FANTASTIC . . . and explosive.
