Thousands of years ago there was a prophecy that came forth amongst the Native American peoples. It was short and simple. The prophecy stated that a day would come when a white-skinned man would come from the sea bearing a “black book” that would teach the people more accurately about the Great Spirit.

This prophecy is unbelievable and raises a lot of emotion within me when I think about it. The main emotion is actually frustration. I am absolutely heartbroken at how badly the marriage between religion and politics utterly screwed up the calling on the Europeans to bear the message of the Gospel to the “New World.” This prophecy was discarded once the “white-skinned man” not only brought the black book, but brought chains, oppression and control as well.

Now, this isn’t what I really wanted to write about. I only share this first to explain that the Native people have often had deep communion with the Great Spirit, though not always knowing his full name nor the full story of his Son. They have still heard his voice over the millennia and God has been present with these beautiful people in incredible and hidden ways. The real thing I wanted to write about is an even greater ancient prophecy amongst the Native people. One that is still widely held among many of them to this day and brings them much hope…

The prophecy states that there are “Rainbow Warriors” coming to bring light to mankind. These warriors are going to rise up and teach the nations the true way of peace, harmony, and righteousness. They will come in a season of great transition and crisis when the systems of the world are exposed as faulty and weak. They will bear the image of the Spirit and will release his truth and call the world into its true identity.

I cannot help but think of the apostle Paul’s prophetic words of how “creation groans for the manifestation of the sons of God” (Romans 8:19). Now the Native people know how to listen to the creation. They have kept much of what I believe Adam lost in the Garden, which was a rich communion with nature. And as they have embraced this communion they have actually heard the quiet whispers of the earth “groaning” for these sons of God to appear. And while they would not always use biblical language, I believe they are still tapping into what Paul boldly proclaimed about the sons of God… These are the sons of God who will bear the message of the “rainbow” covenant with Noah, which of course ultimately pointed to the New Covenant in Christ — where a “flood” of mercy was released upon mankind as Christ was baptized into the waters of death for all people.

I write this because I believe those Rainbow Warriors are alive in this generation. Some are actually reading this article. These are those who are awakening to their union with Christ and the truth that they bear the image of the Eternal. They are those who are coming to know that they are indeed the sons and daughters of God. 

And one last note… These “warriors” will do what old Europe failed to do. Without any agenda and or the need to control, they will reach multitudes of people groups (many of whom know the “Great Spirit” but in a hidden and/or incomplete way). They will bring the full counsel of his word and his name. And they will restore the desolate heritages and rebuild the ruined cities. They will be signposts and releasers of the kingdom of God on earth.
