“There once was a note, listen…”
Pete Townshend
Â
It is an indisputable, well-established historical fact that Peter, James, John, and the rest of them guys got around town in a Honda, as scripture clearly states that “…they were all in one Accord…”Â
(ouch)
Yeah, I know…Â You probably seen that one coming from a mile away, but it had to be done. I needed to find a way to open this bit about being in accord, and this seemed to be the obvious choice.
When you read the Acts of the Holy Spirit, you find that there is something to be said about being in accord.
…And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance…
Acts 2:1-3 KJV
It’s kinda obvious that the Church – the Ekklesia – didn’t have its birthday until everybody got over whatever differences they had and came into one accord, which is to say they were of the same mind, they were in agreement, they were in unity with each other. Unity is important. Papa likes unity. After all, imagine going to visit a friend, and during that visit your friend is squabbling with their spouse, the kids are constantly at each other’s throats, and the neighbor is throwing trash over the fence into your friend’s yard because earlier your friend threw his trash into the neighbor’s yard. I am pretty sure you would do whatever you could to cut that visit short and beat it on down the line.
But when we are in accord with each other…
“How truly wonderful and delightful it is to see brothers and sisters living together in sweet unity! It’s as precious as the sacred scented oil flowing from the head of the high priest Aaron, dripping down upon his beard and running all the way down to the hem of his priestly robes. This harmony can be compared to the dew dripping from Mount Hermon, which flows down upon the hills of Zion. Indeed, that is where Yahweh has decreed his blessings will be found, the promise of life forevermore!”
Psalm 133 TPT
This is a situation where I would want to hang around in. More importantly, Papa tells us through the psalmist that this is a situation He would want to hang around in. He even pours out blessing and life over this situation.
There is something about this that jumped out at me not too long ago.
Pretty much every translation out there uses the word “harmony” in this psalm.
“Harmony” is a musical term that describes a group of notes that sound good together.
We all are familiar with harmonies; everybody knows some song that that they like where there are harmonies worked into the tune. It may be the Chorale of Beethoven’s 9th symphony in D minor, a bootleg recording of Crosby, Stills, Nash, & Young fighting in the dressing room of the Filmore East, or your kids school choir recital.Â
The most common harmony we are familiar with is a chord.
(Did somebody say “accord”?)
A chord is three or more specific notes that sound particularly good together.
“For wherever two or three come together in honor of my name, I am right there with them!”
Matthew 18:20 TPT
The most basic chord is called a “Triad,” which are three notes played in unison that resonate in a wonderful way. When more notes are added to a foundational Triad, the chord takes on entirely new and unique beauty. (For those who want to go deeper, here’s a helpful video breaking down this aspect of music theory.)
“A threefold cord is not easily broken.”
Ecclesiastes 4:12 KJV
Ok. So, is this “Triad” chord speaking of us and Jesus? Us and Holy Spirit? Us and Papa? Or the Trinity Themself?
YES!
Moving right along…
“Accord” is truly a good thing when Papa is in the center of it. If Papa is not in the center of it, it is not really accord at all, as whatever it is you may be in unity with, is not in accordance with Papa. What you actually have in this situation is simply discord.
If “accord” can be described in musical terms, “discord” can be described in much the same way.
Imagine, if you dare, a vocal performance of Yoko Ono, Bob Dylan, and Screaming Jay Hawkins (if you don’t know Screaming Jay Hawkins, here you go) with each person singing whatever song they want, whatever note they want, whatever lyric they want, whenever they want, with no regard for what the others are doing.
You may want to seek the help of a mental health professional after such a trauma, but you will know what “discord” can do to a person.
But I digress…
I have heard it said that there are some Rabbinic teachings that Papa did not simply SPEAK creation into existence, but SANG it. I cannot vouch for the veracity of this, but it is, to say the least, a fascinating idea.
From Genesis to Revelation, scripture is full of singing both in heaven and earth. We are created not only in His image, but His likeness as well. He sings over us, and we sing back to Him, so I have no problem speculating that Papa sang creation into existence.
If this is indeed the case, it was not a solo act. After all there is the Trinity. Father, Son, Spirit in one accord, in perfect harmony with each other, the perfect Triad.
Even better yet, we are invited to join in unison with this “Triad,” and build a new chord, with a unique voice and identity, firmly founded on the original Triad.
Thanks for letting me take up some of your time.
