Quantum Entanglement and the Wisdom of Rafiki

Are you familiar with “entangled particles” from the world of quantum physics?  Far more mind-blowing than anything in science fiction is the reality of God’s creation, and how it reveals deep truths about Him–and us. Here is an excerpt from an io9 article on the reality of how particles become entangled and will instantaneously and seamlessly mirror each other across great distances of space (and even across distances of time as well) . . .

“Quantum entanglement says that two particles can become intertwined so that they always share the same properties, even if they’re separated in space. Now it seems particles can be entangled in time, too. Who’s ready for some serious quantum weirdness?

Of all the ideas in modern physics, quantum entanglement is a serious contender for the absolute strangest. Basically, entangled particles share all their quantum properties, even if they are separated by massive distances in space. The really odd part is that any changes made to the properties of one particle will instantly occur in the other particle. There are some subtle reasons why this doesn’t actually violate the speed of light, but here’s the short version: this is all very, very bizarre.”

This speaks powerfully of our union with Christ.  We are “entangled” with Him in both time and space.

What does it mean to submit or surrender ourselves to this Reality?  The phrase “submit/surrender to Christ” is used often, but I don’t know if we’ve adequately explored what this really means in our practical, day-to-day lives.

One thing I’d suggest is that I must surrender the need to shape my personal theology around what I personally experience, or what I see most often around me in my immediate relationships and circumstances.  The ultimate act of submission to Christ is to make a firm decision in my mind and heart to believe ONLY what He says is true about me.  My thoughts and emotions will begin lining up with Reality as I spend more time letting Him convince me of what is True.  I can make a CHOICE to trust Him with all my heart, in spite of what I now see, experience, think, touch, taste or smell.

As I do this, I recognize that Jesus is the only One Who lived a 100% surrendered life . . . and . . . He has included me into Himself through His Finished Work.  We are forever entangled, and I need to believe this with all my heart (asking the Spirit to flood me with the light of REVELATION regarding my position in CHRIST).  This is Amazing, Mind-Bending, Heart-Exploding News and it is beyond our wildest imaginations.

I start to think and feel and experience the TRUTH of the surrendered, submitted life more and more if I focus on a point just beyond the (natural) mirror, a point that reveals CHRIST in me, the Hope of Glory.  I simply have to fix the eyes of my heart on Jesus, the Author and Finisher of my faith.

A short Disney quote is quite fitting at this point: “Look Harder!!!” This is from the scene in The Lion King where the wise Rafiki speaks to a confused and frustrated Simba, urging him to look and see the reflection of his kingly father in the water. Here’s the clip to refresh your memory . . .

We are in a deep and permanent union with Christ, but we must learn to see beyond the horizon of our natural experiences and trust in this reality. Thankfully, God has showcased this truth through the bizarre world of quantum entanglement. This is a “clue” out of the book of creation as to the great Message that God is speaking. Below are few more “clues” from the book of God’s Word about this Message as well . . .

  • He made me in His image and likeness and granted me His authority in Christ (Gen 1:26-28, Matt 28)
  • He loved and affirmed me before I ever showed up on the planet (Ps 139, Jer 29, Eph 2)
  • I am co-crucified, co-resurrected, and co-seated in heavenly places with Christ (Rom 6, Gal 2, Eph 2, Col 2)
  • I am united with Christ forever, entangled, joined, included (Rom 6)
  • The fullness of the Godhead dwells in me at this moment (Col 2)
  • The same power that raised Christ from the dead is operating in me right now (Eph 1)
  • I am part of Christ’s Body and have become a partaker of His Divine Nature (II Peter 1)
  • I am a brand new creation (II Cor 5)
  • I have become the very righteousness of God in Christ (II Cor 5)
  • God sees me as righteous, holy, perfect, a saint, circumcised from my old nature, blameless in love (Heb 10)
  • He says that I am a co-laborer with Him, and as His Friend He shares everything with me (John 15)
  • I am a joint Heir with Christ and have been given a vast inheritance (Eph 1-3)
  • I am the Bride of Christ, the object of His fierce affection and His eternal love (Song of Songs)
  • Jesus commissioned me to reconcile people back to His Father by producing supernatural fruit (John 15)
  • He gave me His Spirit to produce fruit of character (Gal 5)
  • He gave me His Spirit to produce and stir up gifts of power (I Cor 12-14, II Tim 1)
  • God has asked me to accomplish mighty works that He ordained beforehand for me to do (Eph 2)
  • He believes that I can be like Him when He says to me each morning “Come, Follow Me” (Matt 4)
  • I have been equipped to do greater works than Christ (John 14)
  • We (His Body) have been given the mind of Christ (I Cor 2)

Thank you Father for joining us to your Son by Your Spirit . . . may we bask in the beauty of these truths.

And may we learn to look harder.
