Artists Awakening

Behind the scenes is an underground swell of big-name artists, both actors and musicians, who are having encounters with Jesus. Recently, an interview with Shia Labouf was being shared all across social media as he shared a powerful testimony of Jesus saving his life. During the same week, word got out about a new song by Eminem. At Elisha’s Riddle, we love a good awakening story. We’re also some longtime Eminem fans, so we’re definitely going to hone in on this one. He had a big impact on our world in the late 90’s and early 2000’s. Some of it was bad. His lyrics were at times very dark. But if you’ve been following him in recent years, there’s been a slow and subtle shift, one that takes eyes of grace to see.

A first major clue that God was up to something in his life was through a song he released a few years ago where he publicly apologized to his mother (who took the brunt of his worst lyrics in the early 2000s). Apparently, he came to an understanding that this lyrical spew of hatred was simply misdirected anger toward his dad who had abandoned the family. What a powerful and needed revelation.

On top of this, Eminem has been in recovery for over a decade now. He used to have a serious addiction problem and now he’s living a life free from drugs and alcohol. You may be aware that the modern recovery process involves surrendering to a “higher power.” For some, this is God, but others might say it’s the universe. Some could say it’s the earth, and some might say it’s themselves. But for Marshall Mathers – Eminem – it’s looking more and more like he recognizes Jesus Christ as his true Higher Power.

The way we have found this out is through a new rap song he released on DJ Khaled’s album “God Did.” There is a track called “Use This Gospel Remix” that Eminem is on. In the song he raps these wonderful words:

“So my savior, I call on

To rescue me from these depths of despair

So these demons better step like a stair

Because He is my shepherd,

I’m armed with Jesus, my weapon is prayer.”

Let’s continue to pray for Eminem, that he continues to awake, arise, and advance in what Christ is calling him to. He is a beloved child of God who has been through a lot.

And again, there are many more who are coming into this awareness of the glory of God. We pray for an exponential increase of this and that all these artists – who are really just lost sons and daughters – would be bold enough to put this newfound faith at the front and center of their lives.
